Work with the house of ink

Bring your craft.
Leave your name with us.

Sumiya is a small circle of makers who build books, sites, apps and brands that go out under someone else's name. If you write, design, or build at a quiet, exacting level, we'd like to know you. The work is real, the clients are serious, and the credit is theirs by design.

Why we're looking

We promise our clients a finished thing. Your craft is how we keep that promise.

Every project that leaves the workshop (a full-length book, a navigable site, an app, a brand) is made by hand, end to end, under the client's name. One person can grind the ink for a while, but a real studio is a circle of people who each do one thing beautifully.

So we keep a quiet bench of collaborators. Writers who disappear into another voice. Designers who make a page feel inevitable. Developers who build things that simply work. If that's you, the form below is the door.

The crafts we need

One workshop. Many hands, each sure of its trade.

These are the skills behind everything we make. You don't need all of them, you need one, done at a level you're quietly proud of. Apply even if your craft isn't named exactly: if it serves the work, we want to hear from you.

i

Ghostwriters

Write full-length books, manuals and monographs in someone else's voice, then vanish from the page. Long-form stamina and a real ear for register.

Books · Manuals · Long-form
ii

Copywriters

Landing pages, sites and newsletters that say one thing well. Warm, persuasive, unhurried. You make a single scroll do the work of a pitch.

Web · Email · Launches
iii

Editors & proofreaders

Shape a manuscript and then polish it until it's clean. Structure, line edit, fact-check, the last read before a client's name goes on it.

Structural · Line · Copy-edit
iv

Translators & localizers

Rewrite, never just translate. We work in English, Italian and Polish, and want more. Each language must read as if it were written there first.

v

Brand & graphic designers

The look of the whole thing: identity, palette, the marks and the system that make a client's pages feel like them and no one else.

Identity · Systems · Marks
vi

Web & UI designers

Design interactive sites, catalogues and landing pages: a portfolio someone can walk through, not a brochure. Layout, hierarchy, the calm of it.

UI · UX · Layout
vii

Front-end developers

Build the sites and landing pages so they're fast, accessible and quietly solid. Clean HTML and CSS; just enough JavaScript, never more.

HTML · CSS · JS
viii

App developers

Small, focused apps for an event or a catalogue: present products well, capture interest, work flawlessly in someone's hand at a busy stand.

Web apps · Event tools
ix

Illustrators & ink artists

The imagery that gives a page its soul: brush marks, vector craft, the sumi-e restraint that suggests a whole world in a few strokes.

SVG · Sumi-e · Imagery
x

Book & editorial designers

Typeset long documents and lay out books for print and Amazon KDP. Typography that disappears so the words can be felt, not noticed.

Typesetting · KDP · Print

Photographers

Portraits, products, the real texture of a person's work. Quiet, honest images that earn their place beside considered writing.

Portrait · Product · Story
xii

Researchers

Gather the evidence behind a white paper or a book: sources checked, figures verified, the working shown so the conclusion is hard to argue with.

Research · Fact-check · Data

How we work together

A fair, quiet way of working, made for makers who'd rather make.

No agency churn, no open-plan noise. Clear briefs, real budgets, and the freedom to do the work the way it should be done.

What we ask of you

  • Mastery of one craft, and the taste to know when something is finished.
  • Comfort working behind the scenes: the client's name goes on it, not yours in public.
  • Reliability with a deadline, and honesty when one is at risk.
  • Discretion. What leaves the workshop, and whose name is on it, stays between us.

What you get from us

  • Real projects for serious clients, paid fairly and on time.
  • Remote and project by project: take the work that fits your hands.
  • Clear briefs and a single point of contact, never a committee.
  • Credit where it counts: kept in the studio, remembered for the next commission.

Apply to work with us

Tell us what you make, and how well.

A short application is all we need to start. Tell us your craft, point us to a little of your work, and say a word about why quiet, name-behind-the-name work appeals to you. We read every one ourselves.
